Pomp and Circumstance

Yesterday we traveled south to Bloomington, Indiana to celebrate my brother Eric’s graduation from Indiana University (IU). IU happens to be my undergraduate alma mater, and my brother Brandon’s undergraduate alma mater as well. And once my dad receives his Master’s of Public Health, he’ll be a bona fide IU graduate, too. Yep, a family of Hoosiers.

We had afternoon tea at Eric’s apartment, and then took a driving tour of the campus and surrounding area. It certainly brought back memories. Not much has changed, although there are certainly more Starbucks.

We had a fabulous dinner at Scholar’s Inn in Bloomington. I had the duck breast with a grape and kumquat chutney, served with hazelnut pancakes and haricots verts. Larry had lamb chops and chanterelle risotto. The dinners were very good, if you overlook the crunchy risotto, but the desserts were even better–the restaurant had about twenty desserts to choose from. It was a difficult choice, but I settled on a warm apple crumble with vanilla ice cream, and Larry had the peach kuchen. Although both were scrumptious, the best dessert was Brandon’s bete noir–a delicious chocolaty concoction that melted in the mouth.

Congrats again to Eric!
