We saw this dog trying to drink from the lawn sprinkler by the Washington Monument. Hilarity ensued.

Tourmobile and Biker Vets on the Mall

Yesterday, after a delicious breakfast at the Original Pancake House, we took Larry’s parents and sister to on the metro to Union Station and then hopped on the Tourmobile for a day of sight-seeing. For those of you that don’t know, the Tourmobile is a handy-dandy tour bus (narrator included) that drives around the mall, stopping at all the major monuments and museums. You can hop off at each stop, look around, take pictures and hop on the next bus, or you can stay on the bus and just do drive-by sightseeing. It’s a great way for your out-of-town guests to see the major tourist attractions.

For the most part, we just stayed on the bus, but we did get off at the Washington Monument:

Two Flags

We also stopped at the Lincoln Memorial, where we had a little encounter with about 400,000 veterans and bikers. They are in town for the big Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Rally to honor American Veterans and MIAs. It was a big change from the types of rallies I normally see on the mall with hippies and war protesters. The bikers looked intimidating, but they were actually quite nice. And while the hippies are normally in my face, pleading their cause and shoving flyers down my throat, this group was calm and unobtrusive. Dennis, my father-in-law, even made a new friend:

Making Friends at the Lincoln Memorial

It was so dog-gone hot all day, though.

Dog Finds Water

I don’t think that Larry’s mom and dad really enjoyed the metro all that much, and they especially disliked the escalators. So today, we’ll be driving.
